Moms & Dads – The Covenant of Stewardship
Opening Thought
God designed sex as covenant intimacy that creates life, and He entrusted moms and dads with the covenant responsibility of stewarding that life. Parenting is not ownership but stewardship — raising children to know and love God. This week’s readings explore the gift of children, the responsibility of parents, and the model of God as our perfect Father.
Day 1 – Children Are Gifts
Psalm 127:3–5 (NLT):
“Children are a gift from the Lord; they are a reward from him. Children born to a young man are like arrows in a warrior’s hands. How joyful is the man whose quiver is full of them! He will not be put to shame when he confronts his accusers at the city gates.”
Reflection: Children are not possessions but precious gifts. God compares them to arrows — meant to be prepared, sharpened, and released into their purpose. Parenting is stewardship, not control.
Day 2 – Transfer Dependence to God
Deuteronomy 6:5–7 (NLT):
“And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your strength. And you must commit yourselves wholeheartedly to these commands that I am giving you today. Repeat them again and again to your children. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are on the road, when you are going to bed and when you are getting up.”
Reflection: Parents are called to pass on dependence from themselves to God. Everyday moments — meals, car rides, bedtime routines — are opportunities to plant God’s Word in our children’s hearts.
Day 3 – Discipline With Love
Ephesians 6:4 (NLT):
“Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger by the way you treat them. Rather, bring them up with the discipline and instruction that comes from the Lord.”
Reflection: Discipline is covenant care — shaping, not shaming; aligning, not provoking. Loving correction prepares children to walk in God’s ways. Parenting with anger breaks trust, but parenting with love builds faith.
Day 4 – Parenting by Presence
Mark 10:13–16 (NLT):
“One day some parents brought their children to Jesus so he could touch and bless them. But the disciples scolded the parents for bothering him. When Jesus saw what was happening, he was angry with his disciples. He said to them, ‘Let the children come to me. Don’t stop them! For the Kingdom of God belongs to those who are like these children. I tell you the truth, anyone who doesn’t receive the Kingdom of God like a child will never enter it.’ Then he took the children in his arms and placed his hands on their heads and blessed them.”
Reflection: Jesus modeled presence — giving children His time, His touch, and His blessing. Our kids don’t just need provision; they need presence. Love is spelled T-I-M-E.
Day 5 – God Our Father
Hebrews 12:5–6 (NLT):
“And have you forgotten the encouraging words God spoke to you as his children? He said, ‘My child, don’t make light of the Lord’s discipline, and don’t give up when he corrects you. For the Lord disciplines those he loves, and he punishes each one he accepts as his child.’”
Reflection: God is our perfect Father — He loves, disciplines, and stewards us with grace. As moms and dads, our calling is to reflect His heart: loving firmly, correcting wisely, and guiding faithfully.
