The Understated – Your Story 4

Your Story – Written in His Blood, Told by Your Words

“And they have defeated him by the blood of the Lamb and by their testimony. And they did not love their lives so much that they were afraid to die.”

—Revelation 12:11 (NLT)

The Understated

Humility — The Perspective That Keeps the Story His

When pride takes the pen, the story is ours.
When humility holds the pen, the story is His.

Whose Story Are You Telling?

Adam and Eve had the perfect setup: God’s dream for them, His Spirit in them, His blessing over them, their purpose clear, and their authority secure. But Satan didn’t come with a sword. He came with a shift in perspective: “Did God really say…?”

They traded God’s story for their own. And ever since, humanity has battled with the same temptation: Whose story will I tell? His, or mine?

Humility is not weakness — it’s the lens that keeps the story His.

1. When Life Gets Hard — Perspective Matters

“Everything that has happened to me here has helped to spread the Good News.”

—Philippians 1:12 (NLT)

Pride response: “I’ll fix this myself. I don’t need God.”

False humility response: “Woe is me. I’ll never get it right.”

Humility response: “Now what? God, how will You use this?”

Your pain can become your platform when humility sets your perspective.

When you step back, God steps forward.

2. The Mind of Christ — Humility Reframes the Story

“You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had…”

—Philippians 2:5–7 (NLT)

Pride promotes self.

Humility abandons self.

Jesus chose servanthood over self-promotion.

Your story is loudest when it’s not about you.

Humility is not thinking less of yourself — it’s thinking of yourself less.

3. The Fruit of Pride — Blame, Shame, Condemnation

“My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.”

—2 Corinthians 12:9 (NLT)

Loud pride: “I’ve got this.”

Quiet pride: “I’ll never be enough.”

Both put me at the center.

Pride fogs the mirror. Humility clears it so Christ can shine.

Blame, shame, and condemnation are the fruits of pride. Grace is the fruit of humility.

4. The Power of an Understated Life

“We ourselves are like fragile clay jars containing this great treasure.”

—2 Corinthians 4:7 (NLT)

The jar isn’t the focus — the treasure inside is.

My cracks don’t disqualify me — they reveal His glory.

What you’re hiding may be what God wants to use.

The cracks in your story don’t disqualify you — they reveal His glory.

Conclusion

Humility isn’t weakness. It’s perspective.
False humility isn’t humility at all — it’s pride in disguise.
Humility keeps the pen in God’s hand.

Stop telling a small story with your pride. Start telling His great story with your humility. Because your testimony isn’t about your ability — it’s about His victory.

Faith Declarations (HUMILITY)

  1. I choose humility as the lens of my story.
  2. I refuse to let pride — whether loud or quiet — distort my testimony.
  3. My weakness is the very place His strength is revealed.
  4. His story will always be greater than mine.

Practical Steps (HUMILITY)

  1. Replace “Why me?” with “Now what, Lord?”
  2. Each morning, pray: “Lord, let me reflect You more than I promote me.”
  3. Identify one area where pride has written your story. Surrender it to God.
  4. Put one person before yourself this week — celebrate their win, give without being noticed.
  5. Share one weakness as a testimony of God’s strength.
